These are just a few of my favourite things, stuff I have collected over the years, and have found useful and helpful. Some of them were gifts that I would not have thought of buying for myself. Could I do life without them? For most of them, sure. But they do come in handy for a busy, modern family!
What are some of your favourite things?
Garlic Peeling Tube – This was a gift. And I love it! It works great for peeling garlic with stubborn skin. Put a clove of garlic in the tube. Roll the garlic clove in the tube between your hands a few times, then let the garlic fall out. The skin should be off or at least loosened enough to peel easily. If not, just put a little bit more energy into it, or roll it on the counter. I find it works best one clove at a time.
Silicon Spatulas – Sometime in the 1990’s, we couldn’t find rubber spatulas made by Rubbermaid anymore, so we had to find a good one to replace it. There were other rubber spatulas, which we tried, but they got hard quickly. When silicon spatulas came on the market, we tried them, and they are GREAT! They come in many different shapes, sizes, and colours; they last a long time; and they can stand the heat of hot puffed wheat cake syrup. I love my silicon spatulas!!
Electric Griddle – (A gift.) I love this for making pancakes. This one is about 10” x 20” when unfolded, and can fit 8 pancakes, 4 to a side. Each side has its own temperature control. It would also be great for making eggs and other quick-fry things. It has a grease catcher, so theoretically, you could cook bacon on it, but I like to cook bacon in a pan that I can put a lid on so the bacon grease doesn’t splatter everywhere. I really just use this to make pancakes! The plates snap out for easy cleaning, and the whole thing folds in half and has a nifty carrying handle. This one is a Rival brand, but I’m sure there are many options out there.
My Kids – Ha ha! Just wanted to see if you were reading. But really, my kids are the best, most precious ‘things’ in my life. And they are very helpful at times!
‘Til next time…
